The most recent survey on Hungarian eating habits revealed, that the Hungarian population covers most of its energy intake after cereals from meat and meat products.
The different meat types contain protein and fat in different proportions. Meat is a complete source of protein with good biological utilization, but it contains mainly saturated fatty acids, which have unfavourable physiological effects.
As the Hungarian population consumes more saturated fatty acids and calories than recommended, it is advised to eat mainly low fat meat types (for example lean poultry meat).
The poultry meat is easier to digest due to it lower fat content and also helps to avoid weight gain. In addition, it contains other valuable nutrients typical of meat, such as essential amino acids, B6 and B12 vitamins, zinc and iron.
